Eating For The Sake Of Eating

I go to work and stare at white lines 11 hours a day just about every day. I love what I do for a living but it can get very monotonous. I have driven 22 years and have around 2,500,000 miles under my belt.
Boredom is the first cause of eating when your not hungry.
One problem I have run into over the years is that I find myself constantly snacking even when I'm not hungry.
If you fall into this category you need to choose healthy snacks and lots of water. The best strategy I've found is to make sure I can't access anything but water and good healthy nutritious snacks from within reach of the drivers seat. Let go of the most stressful part of your day because stress is the worst cause of eating for no reason other than eating. Try to relax and enjoy the view. Try to leave the problems of home or family life where they belong. This will help to relieve some of the feelings of hunger. The main reason this will be of help is that stress is one of the biggest causes of the release of the hormone cortisol. This hormone increases the appetite, and causes the formation of belly fat.
One thing that we all need to know about eating when we are not hungry is that this occurs out of unhealthy eating habits.

Comfort or pleasure eating is one of, if not the worst type of bad eating habit. It is associated with relief of tension , depression, and the inability to deal with life's up and downs. This is how many people create their comfort zone.

Motto to live by; "EAT TO LIVE; DON'T LIVE TO EAT"

One of the worst type of comfort eating habits for truckers is when you see a billboard advertising food that looks particularly appetizing we immediately think you're hungry and then you pull into the parking lot and you get a whiff of the delicious smell of the grill, you immediately think you are hungry. Well think again, because if you have snacked all day you can't possibly be all that hungry. The truth is you have been the victim of slick marketing designed to make you "DESIRE" food even though your not necessarily hungry. When you eat because of desire for food instead of hunger, this is comfort eating.
Association eating is when you eat because of an event like going to a movie or ball game. You are programed to eat that barell of double butter popcorn and a syrup drenched soda.
There isn't an easy solution to overcome any of these bad habits but becoming aware of them and dealing with them is definitely a good first step in the right direction. Always remember to be sure and replace those unhealthy snacks with good wholesome snacks. Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruit and fiber so you will feel full and satisfied without gaining weight.
That's all for now.
Remember to keep the shiny side up and HAPPY TRAILS!
